Minor Travel Consent Letter

A signed letter that gives permission for a child to travel with someone other than the parents.

Good for: Parents whose child is traveling with a grandparent, relative, friend, school group, or one parent only.

Before you sign

  • Airlines, border officials, and some countries want this letter, and they often want it signed in front of a notary. Check what your trip needs.
  • The traveling adult should carry the signed letter, a copy of each parent's ID, and the child's passport if needed.
  • If the child has only one legal parent or guardian, bring proof, such as a court order or a death certificate.
