Sublease Agreement
An agreement where a tenant rents their place, or a room in it, to someone else for a while.
Good for: Tenants who need to rent out their home or a room to a subtenant, and the person who will rent it.
Before you sign
- Read your own lease first. Many leases do not allow subletting unless the landlord says yes in writing. Get the landlord's written permission, and attach it.
- You, the original tenant, usually stay responsible to the landlord for the rent and any damage.
- Do a walk-through together on move-in and write down any damage that is already there.
