Tenant Notice to Vacate
A written notice from a tenant telling the landlord they are moving out, and when.
Good for: Tenants who are moving out and want to give proper written notice to their landlord.
Before you sign
- Check your lease for how much notice you must give. Thirty days is common, and your state sets a minimum for month-to-month rentals.
- Count the days from when the landlord receives the notice, not from when you write it.
- Send it in a way you can prove, such as hand delivery with a signed copy, or certified mail. Keep a copy.
- Ask for a move-out inspection, and give your new address so your deposit can be returned.
